In Bible this year the students will be review Creation and then moving into Bible Heros, our first will be Moses. They will also be expected to learn Bible verses each week and they will be tested on Fridays.
Your students will be working with an English workbook and supplemental pages along with a reader and a reading workbook in class. We will be sending home Victory Drill books after Back to School Night so the students will have those to practice their decoding skills at home.
Students will also have a Spelling workbook that will be kept at school and worked on every day in class along with a list of spelling words to practice each week. There will be spelling tests every Friday unless otherwise noted in the homework letter.
The students will be working on compositions this year and expanding their writing skills. We are starting off the year by working on drafting, revising, proofreading, and publishing a paragraph. They will be building their skills through the year and be working on writing long pieces.
In Science this year the Second graders will be starting off studying about God’s design of and for plants. We will move into vertebrates and invertebrates, which is when we will take our field trip to the Insect Museum in Davis. Our next chapter will be on animal habitats and how we can protect them and help endangered animals. After that, we move into the physical sciences and learn about energy, light, and heat. Unit 3 will take us on an adventure as we learn about the human body through sound, hearing, sight, touch, taste, and smell. Finally, Unit 4 will explain weather concepts and the ocean.
P.E. will be taught by Mr. Miller again this year. The students will be with him three days out of the week, Mondays will be a P.E. with Mrs. Geiser and myself. The students will have Wednesdays off of P.E. most of the time and our Science and Social studies will be moved up to accommodate for Early Release.
